Corfu, Greece

26.08.2023

Corfu... Corfu was a bit of a shock to the system, and the first time we felt homesick. Not for Berlin, London or Tel-Aviv, but homesick for Nidri where we had spent our boat-youth. Have we rushed it? Should we have stayed in Lefkada for a little longer?

Arriving here marked our first 100 Nautical Miles with Seven Tenths. We anchored just North of the city, near a boat yard, which we thought would guarantee a good night’s sleep. Little did we know that besides the constant swell in the water, we were anchored right next to the liveliest night club in town!

Despite the noisy nights and the enormous dock for cruise ships which coated us with diesel smog every morning, we stayed in Corfu for a couple of nights, wandering the city in the afternoons. We discovered a touristy, Italian-Greece, but also some charming back streets filled with derelict, abandoned structures.

So it was hot, rolly and loud, but we got what we came for: a new seawater pipe for our engine – as the old one got chewn away by the loose belt on day 2 – and to go to the cinema to watch the new Barbie film. (We expected a quiet late night showing, but instead were sitting amongst a rowdy crowd of 200 dressed in pink… go figure). After that we were finally able to continue our journey Westwards.
